Support St Oswald’s
St Oswald’s has stood on this coast for almost a century — a place of remembrance, celebration and community, kept alive today through the care of volunteers and the generosity of people like you.
The Trust
In 2017, the St Oswald’s Memorial Trust was formed by descendants of Charles and Jessie Murray — the family who built the church in 1927 in memory of their son, Hector. In 2023, ownership passed from the Anglican Diocese to the Trust, who took on the responsibility of restoring the earthquake-damaged church and securing its future.
Since then, restoration work has been carried out with care — from structural repairs to the stonework and roof, to restoring the memorial windows — so that St Oswald’s can continue to welcome weddings, services and community gatherings for generations to come.
Why your support matters
As a heritage building on an exposed coastal site, St Oswald’s needs ongoing maintenance well beyond what venue hire alone can cover. Your support helps preserve the stonework, gardens and grounds, and keeps this special place open to the community.
